Abel Brainz Digest, Vol. 25 - October 24, 2023

Welcome to Volume 25!

The last couple of weeks have been nuts: shows, bouts with pink-eye, rehearsals, oh my!

Enough of that, let's look at some cool stuff!

If you've taken class with me, you know I love movies and how everything's already been done; Seven Samurai - Magnificent Seven - A Bug's Life.

Three Amigos, Galaxy Quest, Tropic Thunder, also A Bug's Life,

Doc Hollywood - Cars,

Finding Nemo - Taken.

Pixar samples everything. Everybody samples everything. Don't take my word for it, watch this video about Buster Keaton.

Some people look at it like stealing, which is kind of true but if you acknowledge what came before, you're all good. Steal Like An Artist, written by Austin Kleon might make you feel better about 'stealing.'

This I Love Lucy scene came up in class the other day.

Silence and physicality; two of my favorite things to use in scripted work and in improv.

Cool reading stuff

I gave up on Gringos and Creative Quest. Maybe I'll check them out again. I'm breezing through Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. There's even a few pages that talk about improv. Even without the improv section, It's such a fun read.

Cool music stuff

Here's a list of some stuff that's been on heavy rotation for me this year.

If you're looking for some more music, Skratch Bastid from Canada has got a great youtube channel and goes live on Twitch every Tuesday.

Hit me up with any improv or acting questions.
