cool teaching stuff

I had the joy of teaching with my good friend, Tara Ochs this past Sunday. A recurring theme was "being in your head." She asked me a question I hadn't thought about - "What's wrong with that?" My initial response was, "plenty." Tara reminded me that it's impossible, really, to not think about something. I thought about it, and clarified: 

"If being in your head feels/sounds/looks like any kind of doubt or second guessing choices, then that's when it's 'bad.'" Our conversation reminded me of this passage:

We're all different and we're all imperfect, and the imperfections are what makes each of us and our work interesting. We create pieces reflective of who we are, and if insecurity is part of who we are, our work will have a greater degree of truth in it as a result.
