Abel Brainz Digest, Vol. 83 - November, 2025

Hello there!

Happy November 5th!! Let's get to it.

fun movie stuff

Got my late pass to Weapons and holy shit. Not really a spoiler but it's basically a really twisted version of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. (and definitely keep your eye out for alt takes and deleted scenes in the Ferris trailer)

Showed the oldest Big Trouble in Little China recently and he loved it. Sharing a favorite movie with your kids has gotta be this close to heaven, especially when they dig it

cool improv stuff

Two shows this month. Two

November 8th (this Saturday!)  - Improv Shenanigans at Dynamic El Dorado

November 21st, - No Alibi at Limelight Theatre (be sure to click on Nov. 21st!)

cool reading stuff

Currently enjoying Never Whistle at Night

Might have to revisit Days of Rage

cool musings stuff

Author Oliver Burkeman is one of my current favorites. And although he might be categorized under "self-help," he doesn't exactly fit the mold. I enjoy his writing because he is all about connection and "plugging in" with humanity. Unfortunately, our own humanity is often ignored in favor of blueprints and lists. Here's a take from Burkeman's most recent newsletter:

...the issue isn’t with journal prompts or daily routines or dumbphones (or productivity systems or meditation practices or weight-loss drugs) in themselves. The issue is with the understandable human tendency to want to use such things to hold the world at bay, so you don’t quite have to plunge in – so that they might, in some subtle way, do the living for you.

I couldn't agree more. For those of us that have worked together, you know that this ties right into me repeating "your choice is enough." This translates to your process, routine, etc., regardless of profession. Find your way. What feels right, for YOU? As long as it doesn't hurt you or anyone else, go for it

That about does it for me.
