Abel Brainz Digest, Vol. 5 - June 7, 2023
Welcome to June, humans!!
A day late sending this newsletter. But here we are!
School’s out and the weather is warm and the WGA strike is still hot. So much so that SAG members (me included) voted to authorize a strike negotiations start today.
What does that mean for you?
It means what it means.
Hobbies? Do ‘em
Friends? See ‘em
It’s a great chance to check in with ourselves!
It's also a great time to read some fun stuff about other artists.
Bill Withers is one of my favorites and he has some enlightening stuff to say in this interview. Something Mr. Withers said in the interview that's fun to think about: "The real and most profound answer to anything you've asked me - why did you say this or why did you do that - is because it crossed my mind? Why did it cross my mind versus crossing your mind or anybody else's mind?
I think that quote allows us to really explore the idea that our choices are enough.
This oral history of Lilo & Stitch is definitely on theme with what's happening with the strike. When art is monetized, some people seem to think artists don't know what they're doing. How the movie was made is a testament to what happens when artists are trusted and left to do what they love.
I trust we are all doing what we love in some shape or form. See you soon!
